Quotes on Arguments

“Marital arguments erupt when a conversion goes out of control – things being said that shouldn’t be said.”

Some of the highlighted quotes from “Winning Arguments”.

“Conflict, not agreement, is the default condition of mortality”

“Knowledge, even deep knowledge, of the techniques of argument, is no defense against them.”

“Argument is everywhere, argument is unavoidable, argument is interminable, argument is all we have.”

“If the power of argument can, like faith, move mountains, it can do so in the service of bad as well as good motives. Argument’s strengths are also its dangers.”

“Conversion is what argument aims for, but never finally achieves.”

“Arguments about the world come first; the world comes second. Words make the world.”

“Academics always know what they can say and what they cannot say, and that knowledge remains a hallmark of their membership in the enterprise, even when it is being debated.”

“The more practiced you become in rehearsing the talking points of your side, the less likely it is . . . that you will change your mind.”

“In politics, arguments alone can’t win the day; the time must be ripe, the setting must be favorable, and the slogans like “marriage equality” must be catchy and stand as arguments in their own right.”

Brand Longevity

I wish I had seriously thought about branding and the longevity of the brand. Looking back, I should have thought about what was going to define my company, what would be a look that would last for years and not go out with the trends, and what image I wanted my customers to see when they first started researching my company.

Srinivas Rao Quotes on Start-Up

Srinivas Rao

Author of Unmistakable: Why Only is Better Than Best and host of the acclaimed podcast, The Unmistakable Creative, Srini has interviewed over 600 entrepreneurs, creatives and thought leaders from all walks of life. From Tim Ferriss to Seth Godin, Kevin Kelly, Ryan Holiday and more, Srini has learned from the best, what it takes to become successful in business. Here’s his business advice for aspiring entrepreneur who want to start a business of their own:

“Probably the most costly mistake many entrepreneurs make is in choosing the people that they work with or hire. It’s a mistake I’ve made. And it’s a mistake I’ve seen over and over again.”

“Work with people on projects before handing over equity or large sums of money.”

“The way we’ve gotten around that is to always work with somebody on a project before we start handing over significant equity stakes or large sums of money. If the trial project goes well, then talk about expanding the scope of the relationship. Sam Altman from Y-Combinator once said something to the equivalent of ‘a bad hire in the first few employees can be detrimental to a startup.’ I’ve really taken that to heart in my business.”

Managing Anger

MANAGING ANGER

Narrated Abu Dharr:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to us: When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise, he should lie down.

Narrated in Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 4782

English Translation: Book 42, Hadith no. 4764

Grade: sahih (authentic)

Translation adapted from sunnah.com

Lessons:

1. Rasulullah (ﷺ) is the finest example and source of wisdom for all humanity.

2. Rasulullah (ﷺ) taught us to sit when we are angry. One who is standing is more likely to act out of violence compared to one who is sitting.

3. If we still feel angry, then we should lie down. Lying down renders a person very unlikely to act violently.

4. Keeping silent is also a way to control anger. Ibn ‘Abbas narrated that Rasulullah (ﷺ) said:

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِذَا غَضِبَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَسْكُتْ

“If any of you becomes angry, let him keep silent.” (Narrated by Imam Ahmad)

The next time we are angry, let our RAHMAH triumph over our anger!

Sifat Malaikat dalam al-Quran

Sifat Malaikat dalam al-Quran:

لا يعصون الله ما امرهم ويفعلون ما يوءمرون

Maksudnya: “Tidak ingkar apa yang diperintah oleh Allah & melakukan apa yang diperintah-Nya”. (Aqidah)

7 Cruel Truths That Will Make Us Stronger

Here some bitter pills we had to take at times.

  1. No one is too busy to not answer you. It’s just that, you are not a ‘priority’ to them.
  2. Each person puts his own interests above all others. Yes, even me. And I think I’m quite a nice guy. Honestly.
  3. You can’t please everyone. Therefore, learn to be a master of our own emotion. Don’t put others in the driver seat for our emotional well-being.
  4. Entitlement, well, that’s is something that I just hate. We really need to take accountability and responsibility for our life and try. Most people just dream, but rarely one actually tried to change things.
  5. Excuse for things we supposed to do but didn’t is easy. Why? Because we’ll always find an excuse.
  6. Walk the talk. We are characterised by our actions rather than our thoughts. We it worries me that nowadays we have a lot ‘thought leaders’ rather than someone whom actually done what they’ve been talking about.
  7. Remember, no one will come and save us from our own life. I believe that Allah (God) never gives us something we cannot handle. And most of these ‘test’ are for us to grow and developed better competencies.

Things we shouldn’t care

Here are some of the things we shouldn’t care about

  • Others opinions & POV (Point of Views)
  • Our past, the only way is up. Therefore, don’t let our past hold us back.
  • Don’t care for revenge, forgive and forget and don’t was our precious time.
  • Being liked by everyone. That’s not even possible.
  • Giving others powers over our emotions. Always strive to remain in control.
