Teach yourself Cultural Intelligence

You often can’t rely on your organization to provide formal training, so seek out opportunities to learn about the culture you’ll be collaborating with on your own.

In addition to being confident in your abilities, observing how people from other countries operate, and adopting new culturally appropriate behaviors, here are some ways you can further prepare for a cross-cultural collaboration:

  • Read a novel or nonfiction that is set in the culture of a country where someone you’ll be collaborating with lives or was raised.
  • Take an immersion course in the language spoken in that country. The better you speak the language, the deeper your understanding of the other culture.
  • Watch documentaries on the culture as well as movies and TV series produced in that country to get a sense of the values and beliefs held by its people.
  • Find a mentor who’s familiar with that culture and who can help you become more familiar with it. Tap into your existing social network, alumni groups, and professional associations. Social media has opened up opportunities to connect around the globe.

This is why you should forget your New Year’s resolutions… 🙌🙌

A awesome piece of content from Prince Ea.

Here what he says,

One of my favorite stories is about a man, and this man is walking down a path and finds an egg.

An eagles egg.

He takes this egg and puts it into the nest of a backyard hen. Pretty soon the eagle hatches with the chicks and grows up with them.

Now all his life that eagle did what the chickens did. He would poke around in the dirt looking for worms and insects to eat. He would fly a few feet into the air like chickens do. He’d cluck around.

As time passed, that eagle he grew very old and one day he saw something above him. This thing it glided gracefully and majestically through the cloud.

What’s that?” the eagle says.

Well that? That’s an eagle” One chicken responds. “He is the King of All Birds. The masters of the Skies but we belong to the ground because we are just chickens. Don’t worry about him, you will never be that.” The chicken added.

That eagle lived and died a chicken. Because that is what he thought he was.

This new year is the time to take flight. You and me both know that you don’t belong where you are right now! You don’t belong with some of the people you’re around right now. You got no business doing what you’re doing right now.

You being a chicken where you were born an eagle.

So now the question is, how long’s it gonna take to make the decision to make the shift and show some courage, show some character.

That word character is funny, you know character is the ability to carry out a resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed.

I’m gonna say that again, because some of you all, might have missed it.

Character is the ability to carry out a resolution long after  the excitement of the moment has passed.

Are you gonna say you wanna do something? Do it for two weeks and then quit. Like you did last year, like you did the year before last.

You say you wanna lose weight, get in shape, get your business off the ground, get closer to God, and then turn around and party. Get lit. Drink alcohol. Eat like crap and continue to live below who you were created to be.

There by committing the greatest sin known to man.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

I’m not religious but i’m gonna take you to church, watch this, see the word sin comes from the Greek word Sin used in archery. It means to miss your mark. The greatest sin in life is to miss your mark, to not be who you were created to be, to be a chicken  instead of an eagle.

I don’t know if you guys remember, the story of Icarus, lot of people remember Icarus being this guy who had his wings made out of wax. His father caution him not to fly too high or the sun will melt your wings. And what happened? It was Icarus’s arrogance that caused him to fly too high, sun melted his wings. And boom, he fell to the earth. DEAD.

But that’s not the full story,

No. No. No. There’s more to it. See Icarus’s father also cautioned him against flying too low. He said don’t fly too close to the sea or your weight will cause you to plummet to the water. See we all know not to be too arrogant, well most of us, but how many of us know not to be too humble? Too meek, too timid, too shy, too safe !

It is said that the greatest tragedy in life, is not that people aim too high and miss, it is that people aim too low and hit.

I see a lot of people on Facebook, everywhere, Instagram, talking about the friend zone, “haha” laughing, he’s in the friend zone, look, the hover hand! But i don’t see too many people making jokes about the other zone, the comfort zone. Ain’t no memes about that. Ain’t no jokes. You know why? Because a lot of you all are in there.

Well in this new year, let’s step ot of our comfort zone. Fortune favors the bold and it is the cave that you fear, the cave that you fear that will hold the treasure that you desire!

Forget a new years resolution!

Forget it.

Lets make a new life resolution to be fully and authentically YOU.

I don’t know what dream you have but I can guarantee you, there’s somebody in the hospital right now praying, begging God to have the opportunity that you have right now.

DON’T BLOW IT !

It is time, it is time to go from mediocre to meteoric.

It is time to go from being counted out, to being counted on.

It is time to fly. Like the eagle you are, or do you want to continue to cluck with the chickens?

When I Die by Ibnu Qayyim al-Jauziah

When i die

When my coffin

Is being taken out

You must never think

I am missing this world

Don’t shed any tears

Don’t lament or

Feel sorry

I’m not falling

Into a monster’s abyss

When you see

My corpse is being carried

Don’t cry for my leaving

I’m not leaving

I’m arriving at eternal love

When you leave me

In the grave

Don’t say goodbye

Remember a grave is

Only a curtain

For the paradise behind

You’ll only see me

Descending into a grave

Now watch me rise

How can there be an end

When the sun sets or

The moon goes down

It looks like the end

It seems like a sunset

But in reality it is a dawn

When the grave locks you up

That is when your soul is freed

Have you ever seen

A seed fallen to earth

Not rise with a new life

Why should you doubt the rise

Of a seed named human

Have you ever seen

A bucket lowered into a well

Coming back empty

Why lament for a soul

When it can come back

Like joseph from the well

When for the last time

You close your mouth

Your words and soul

Will belong to the world of

No place no time

sonnet 18…

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade

Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;

Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou growest:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

Puisi Cinta untukmu Bidadariku

Assalamualaikum … Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim…

Puisi buat Bidadariku..=)

Bidadariku,

Namamu tak terukir

Dalam catatan harianku

Asal usulmu tak hadir

Dalam diskusi kehidupanku,

Wajah indahmu tak terlukis

Dalam sketsa mimpi-mimpiku,

Senyum manismu yang tak terlihat

Dalam memberikanku semangat,

Halus citra kelembutanmu dirimu

Dalam menjadi cermin kelemah-lembutanku,

Indah suaramu tak terekam

Dalam pita batinku,

Namun kau hidup membawa

Pori-pori cinta dan semangatku,

Sebab

Kau adalah hadiah agung

Dari Tuhan

Untukku

Bidadariku,

Inginku ketahui

Siapakah namamu wahai bidadariku…

*ibn Qayyim al-jauziiah, “cinta merupakan cermin bg seseorang yg sedang jatuh cinta untuk mengetahui watak dan kelemah-lembutan dirinya dlm citra kekasihnyanya, ia tidak jatuh cinta kecuali kpd dirinya sendiri..

graveyard-in-sun_925x.jpg

Lessons learned with time did fade,

The radiance that once shone on your face…

Sin after sin made you turn away,

But what will you say on Judgment Day?

There used to be a light in your eyes,

For Allah’s name every tear you would cry…

Somewhere between hope and fear,

With every footstep an angel was near.

A heart neglected begins to rust,

But a little bit of love can bring back trust.

Patience is a virtue few understand,

And only falling on your knees gives you the strength to stand.

Countless blessings you can’t deny,

But how can you be thankful when you’ve already died?

Sometimes reality is only your perception,

And yet you don’t realize that you’re a casualty of deception.

Kumpulan Syair Cinta dari Rumi

As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah…… Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim…

I
Cinta mengubah kepahitan menjadi manis
tanah dan tembaga menjadi emas
yang keruh menjadi jernih
si sakit menjadi sembuh
penjara menjadi taman
derita menjadi nikmat
kekerasan menjadi kasih sayang

II

Cintalah yang telah melunakkan besi
mencairkan batu
membangkitkan yang mati
meniupkan kehidupan pada jasad tak bernyawa
mengangkat hamba menjadi sang majikan

III.

Cinta bagaikan sayap
dengannya manusia terbang di angkasa
menggerakkan ikan menuju jala sang nelayan
menghantar si kaya meraih bintang di langit ketujuh
Cinta berjalan di gunung
maka gunungpun bergoyang menari

IV.

Cinta itu kekayaan sejati
takkan bersatu dengannya
singgasana raja dan sultan
siapa yang telah mencicipi
takkan ada lagi anggur yang melebihi
Cinta adalah raja diraja
kekuasaan rajapun bersujud di hadapannya
sultan dan khalifah menjadi budaknya

V.

Cinta bagaikan penyakit tanpa ubat
setiap penderita meminta ditambahkan penderitaannya
dengan suka cita mereka berharap
kepedihan dan derita dilipatgandakan
Takkan ada minuman di dunia
yang manisnya melebihi racun ini
Takkan ada lagi kesehatan di dunia
yang lebih baik dari penyakit ini
Cinta memanglah penyakit
tetapi, penyakit yang menyembuhkan semua penyakit
siapa saja yang pernah mengidapnya
takkan pernah lagi menderita penyakit lain

VI.

Cinta adalah warisan Sang Adam
sedangkan kecerdikan itu barang dagangan syaitan
tempat si cerdik dan bijaksana bersandar pada jiwa dan akalnya
Cinta berarti penyerahan dri
karena akal bagaikan seorang perenang
yang terkadang sampai ke tepian
sering juga tenggelam di tengah jalan
Tak sebanding dengan Cinta ini
ibarat bahtera Nuh yang terselamatkan

VII.

Tidak setiap kita berhak dicintai
karena syarat dicintai adalah akhlak dan keutamaan
namun ambil bagianmu sebagai pecinta dan nikmatillah
Jika dirimu tidak menjadi yang dicintai
maka jadilah yang mencintai

:: Hati-hati bawa hati ::

As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah…… Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim…

Aduh,

susahnya punya hati

letaknya tersembunyi,

tapi geraknya tampak sekali

(hurmm , malu juga diri ini)

Makanya,

lebih baik punya isteri

kalau tersenyum ada yang menanggapi

kalau berekspresi ada yang memahami

sikapnya lembut tak bikin keki

kadang malah memuji

     “Tuhan tak pernah ingkar janji,

        kalau terus menjaga diri,

akan mendapat pendamping yang lurus hati.”

Tapi kalau masih sendiri,

hati-hati bawa hati

kalau sibuk mencari perhatian,

kapan kamu mengenal gadis yang bisa menjaga

pandangan?

bagusnya sibuk menyiapkan perbekalan

(maunya sih kutulis memperbaiki iman)

saat-saat tak terbayangkan

Adapun kalau sudah beristeri,

jangan lupa mengingatkan

kalau ada yang dilalaikan

tentang perkara yang disyari’atkan

tapi kalau ia memelihara kewajiban

ingat-ingatlah untuk memberi perhatian

jangan menunggu dapat peringatan

*keki: berasa tidak senang a.k.a tidak gembira.

A Hero Prophet_by Thomas Carlisle

As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah…… Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim…

hooded-figure-sits-on-city-street-hill_925x.jpg

A HERO-PROPHET

A poor, hard-toiling ill-provided man;

Careless of what vulgar men toil for.

Not a bad man, I should say;

Something better in him than HUNGER of any sort- or these wild arab men,

Fighting and jostling three and twenty years at his hand,

In close contact with him always,

Would not have reverenced him so!

They were wild men,

Bursting ever an anon into quarrel,

Into all kind of fierce sincerity.

Without right worth or manhood,

No man could have commanded them.

They called him prophet, you say?

Why? He stood there face to face with them;

Bare, not enshrined in any mystery

Visibly, clouting his own cloak.

Cobbling his own shoes;

Fighting, counseling, ordering in the midst of them.

They must have seen what kind of man he WAS.

Let him be CALLED what you like!

No emperor with his tiaras was obeyed   as this man in a cloak of his own clouting.

During three and twenty years of rough actual trial.

I find something of a veritable HERO necessary for that itself.

Rela Pada Ketentuan Allah

As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah…… Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim…

Rela Pada Ketentuan Allah

Oleh: Imam Asy-Syafi’i

Biarkanlah hari-hari berbuat semahunya
Berlapang dadalah jika takdir menimpa

Jangan berkeluh-kesah atas musibah di malam hari
Tiada musibah yang kekal di muka bumi
Jadilah laki-laki tegar dalam menghadapi tragedi
Berlakulah pemaaf selalu menepati janji

Jika banyak aibmu di mata manusia
Sedang engkau berharap menutupinya
Bersembunyilah engkau di balik derma
Dengan derma aibmu tertutup semua

Jangan pernah terlihat lemah di depan musuhmu
Sungguh malapetaka jika musuh menertawaimu

Barangsiapa kematian datang menjemputnya
Langit dan bumi tak kan mampu melindunginya

Bumi Allah begitu lapang luas membentang
Namun seakan sempit kala ajal menjelang

Biarkanlah hari-hari ingkar janji setiap saat
Kematian tak mungkin dicegah dengan obat
