For instance, when Starbucks founder Howard Schultz was trying to revitalize the brand, he acted like a customer. He walked into a store and all he could smell was burned cheese. Unappetizing!
Starbucks redesigned its toasters and its breakfast sandwich recipe. Now it sells profitable sandwiches—in cafes smelling fragrantly of coffee.
