Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or oppressed,” A man said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “By preventing him from oppressing (others), for that is how to help him.”

Translation adapted from sunnah.com
- A Muslim is obligated to help other Muslims.
- If a Muslim is oppressed, it is a responsibility to defend him and help him.
- If a Muslim turns into an oppressor, such as when he tortures other people or animals or cheats other individuals of money, it also becomes an obligation to prevent him from doing so.
