It was narrated from Abu Ya’la Shaddad bin Aws that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said “The wise man is the one who takes account of himself and strives for that which is after death. And the helpless man is the one who follows his own whims then indulges in wishful thinking about Allah.”

Lessons:

  1. A wise man always takes time to evaluate his deeds so he will busy himself with good actions and avoid bad actions. In this manner, he strives to be close to Allah by becoming righteous.
  2. He who is wise, is aware that death that can come anytime.
  3. A helpless man is the one who follows his own whims and desires.
  4. He who is helpless also always has wishful thinking about being in Allah’s favour but makes no effort and harbours no motivation to do good deeds.

Strive to be among the wise by preparing ourselves for the Hereafter with good deeds and avoiding bad deeds.
