AVOIDING ENVY

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْحَسَدَ فَإِنَّ الْحَسَدَ يَأْكُلُ الْحَسَنَاتِ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ النَّارُ الْحَطَبَ أَوْ قَالَ الْعُشْب

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Avoid envy, for envy devours good deeds just as fire devours fuel (or grass).

Narrated in Sunan Abi Dawud, No. 4903
Grade: dha’if (weak)

Lessons:

  1. Islam teaches its followers to avoid envy.
  2. Envy erases all good deeds.
  3. Jealousy and envy are feelings originating from sentiments towards others’ virtue and favours from Allah.
  4. Jealousy and envy are the same attributes that Satan possessed in relation to Adam (alaihissalam).

Avoid envy for it will eliminate our good deeds.
